IRISHTOWN
Type: Private Residential
Status: Completed 2019
Location: Irishtown, Dublin
This former council property and mid-terraced house, while robustly built, was in poor repair when our client took ownership. Pulling the staircase outside the original foot-print of the house, formed a central axis, allowing freedom of movement between all rooms, the new extension and rear courtyard. Exposed structural elements were chosen, not only for cost efficiency, but to evoke a rural construction sensibility in the heart of Dublin. The off-set roof pitch allows minimal bearing to the neighbouring properties, while maximizing the sense of space and light through roof-lighting to the rear of the home. A level threshold to the plant surrounded courtyard invites a larger living experience in good weather.
