This brick clad extension draws from ideas of privacy, transparency and light and shade. Perforated brick screens obscure the view from the rear to the working and private zones, while generous areas of glazing link the reception spaces with the garden. Light filters through the exposed timber beams over the dining spaces and deep into the sitting space, contained to the rear of the existing building, from roof-lights above. The pale external brick is complemented on the interior by the timbers used for fitted furniture.
